 As the immune system is reduced, they are easily susceptible to infectious diseases. A typical cough usually lasts up to two weeks.  If the cough is severe, it should be treated immediately.

What is the cough?

Coughing is a common problem in our life. cough mainly comes from cold. A cough is a way to keep the throat and airway clear. It can be acute subacute chronic coughs. Acute cough lasts less than 2 weeks. Sub acute  lasts 7 weeks. Chronic cough more than 8 weeks.

  • Manjal (Turmeric) and Chukku (dried Ginger) taken in equal amounts and prepared decoction.
  • A piece of Arattai( Alpinia galanga) is chewed to get cured from coughing.
  • Leaf juice of Adathodai( Adhatoda justica) is taken in 10- 20 drops, mixed with honey and given.or Adathodai leaves are crushed and decoction is prepared, honey is mixed and given.
  • A piece of Athimathuram(Glycyrrhiza glabra) is chewed to get cured from cough. Best medicine of cough dry cough.
  • Kollu rasam and pepper rasam should be kept frequently.
  • Two days a week to catch the spirit.  At least 5 minutes should be enough. Relieves mucus phlegm-related problems due to retention of spirit.

Siddha Treatments of cough

  • This is done to pacify the deranged humor. Initially a purgative,emetic medicines. Normalize the deranged kapham and vatham.
  • For colds and coughs, Thaleesadi chooranam mixed with honey gives immediate benefits. It is used as an expectorant. A lot of people have a sort of gurgling in the throat due to kapha.  It gives them good relief.
  • For colds, coughs, Thaleesadi  1 gm, Kasturi black 100 mg, Pavaal parpam 100 mg. Take a quantity and mix it with honey and eat twice. 
  • If you buy a neerkovai tablet used in siddha medicine, grind it into a paste and apply it on the ridges on the two sides of the nose and on the forehead, it will be cured sinus pain.

If children have a cold, cough, runny nose, constipation, given

  •  korosanai tablet 
  •  Shantha Chandradaya pill
  •  kasthuri mathirai
  •  Mahavasantakusumakara tablet. Any of these can be given in honey or breast milk. 

How to prevent cough

  • Must avoid smoking.
  • Clean eating habits.
  • Avoid breathing polluted air, yogasana, pranayama etc.
  • Regular exercise is also a way to prevent cough.
